چکیده

Background: The term carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) is not a single disease entity that it can be explicated as the recognition metastasized tumor, in which origin malignancy from an organ or site remains occult. refers to clinical disorder revolves around and represents diversified metastatic tumor group, for whom diagnostic investigations are unable pinpoint comprising extensive radiological techniques, invasive endoscopic procedures, histopathology, many fail diagnose site. Aims Objectives: study was conducted ascertain accuracy fluorine-18 labeled fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) evaluation CUP. secondary objective identify rate malignancies localized on 18F-FDG PET-CT presents CUP local settings. Materials Methods: prospective cross-sectional included patients with who underwent scans between October 2021 February 2022. confirmed through biopsy histology. False-negative false-positive were ascertained and/or follow-up 6 months. Results: Of total 63 patients, 57.1% male, while 42.9% female mean age 56.27 years. overall detection (PT) 88.8%. Abnormal sites indicative malignant correctly detected 79.36% truly positive proven biopsy. scan 4.76%, though other follow-up, 6.36% had true negative 9.52% showed results scan. In this study, calculated identified 85.7%, sensitivity 94%, specificity 40%, predictive value 89.2%, 57.1%. Conclusion: demonstrated high ascertaining PT our population.

Diagnostic Accuracy of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography in the Evaluation of Carcinoma of Unknown Primary

OBJECTIVE Detection of primary tumor site in patients with carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) syndrome has always been a diagnostic dilemma, necessitating extensive workup. Early detection of primary tumor site coupled with specific therapy improves prognosis. The low detection rate of the primary tumor site can be attributed to the biological behavior or the small size of the primary tumor to ...

A Comparative Study of the Construction of Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Facilities in Three South African Hospitals

Introduction: Development of higher energy modalities such as positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), has led to more complex shielding problems. This is due to several factors, such as the radiopharmaceutical relatively high-administered activity, high patient throughput, and high energies of 511 kilo-electron volt (keV) positron annihilation photon...

Dual modality of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography in patients with cervical carcinoma of unknown primary.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate an optimized F-18-flurodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) acquisition protocol for head and neck cancer and assess the usefulness of combined FDG-PET/CT in locating unknown primary tumors in patients with biopsy-proven cervical lymph node metastases. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Twenty-one patients with cervical lymph node metastases of un...

Advantages and disadvantages of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography in carcinoma of unknown primary

Carcinoma of unknown primary is a type of malignant disease where the primary carcinoma cannot be identified by conventional examination, which presents challenges in diagnosis and therapy. This study aims to evaluate the detailed clinical value and indications of using fluorine-18-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18 FDG PET/CT) in a large sample. A...

Positron emission tomography/computed tomography: diagnostic accuracy in lymphoma.

An accurate initial staging of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is critical for the selection of an appropriate treatment. Computed tomography (CT) remains the standard imaging technique, although it is based on anatomic criteria. Positron emission tomography (PET) with 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-d-glucose (FDG) provides useful functional information but req...
